About the Author:
Julie Chapman is the morning news anchor for Your Morning on Spectrum News. She has been an award-winning broadcast journalist for 30 years, and a life-long poet. She just won a National Moonbeam Children’s Book Award for her first book Witches, Bats, and Mystical Cats (2021). It’s a collection of fun poetic stories about the fall/Halloween season and the adventures that await us.

Book titles/intended audience:
Witches, Bats, and Mystical Cats – Spooktacular Rhymes for Halloween Time (ages 5-12 years)

Presentations available for: Elementary School (grades PK-5); Middle School (grades 6-8)

Type of visit(s) available: In person

Visit details: I present my book, tell the students how it came to be, why I am passionate about writing, and why I love the Halloween season. I then read each poetic story aloud and ask the students to interpret the meaning and contribute. We’ll talk about the importance of imagination and learning to visualize and create. Each page has a different rhyming story to encourage the reader to dream about seeing themselves as something more and staying light-hearted through their lives. My total presentation runs 45 to 50 minutes. I have a slide show of my book on my computer, which I usually hook up to a projector for the students to view on the auditorium’s big screen. I usually also wear a microphone. I like it when the students can read along with me.
