About half of all the families served at the Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Room each year are families with premature babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Med. To help meet the unique needs of these families, RMHC-CR is pleased to offer a program called HOPE – Helping Our Preemies Excel.

Through the HOPE program, families receive a tote bag filled with useful items intended to provide comfort throughout their baby’s stay in the NICU. Every family with a preemie in the NICU at Albany Med receives a HOPE bag from RMHC-CR, regardless of where they’re from or whether they’re staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Working in partnership with NICU staff, we provide HOPE bags to around 50 families every month. Like all our programs, HOPE is offered completely free of charge to support preemies and their parents when they need it most.

What’s Inside a HOPE Bag

The Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Med provides excellent care and many of the items most needed by families with premature babies in the NICU. The HOPE program is designed to supplement the services already offered by the hospital, and to meet additional needs in order to help preemies and their families excel.
