Read for RMHC-CR is a reading-based community service program that gives participants the opportunity to use their individual skills and interests to support children and families served by RMHC of the Capital Region. Readers gather sponsors for the reading they plan to do over a month’s time, and all the donations they earn are used to give love and support to families dealing with serious childhood illnesses and injuries.

For readers ages 14 and under, Read for RMHC-CR runs in partnership with area elementary and middle schools. Many schools participate in our program already, and we are always happy to have new schools join us. We also welcome local libraries, small groups and independent readers to be a part of our story!
Program participants start by selecting a reading month. During that month, students track the time they spend reading, and ask family and friends to sponsor their efforts. At the end of the month, donations are gathered and returned to RMHC-CR. Throughout the month, participants can also collect donations online through their own personal fundraising pages.
Thanks to our many program partners, participants earn great prizes as they raise funds for RMHC-CR. More importantly, they gain critical reading skills and learn valuable lessons about helping others. In addition, we offer 10% of funds raised back to schools or nonprofit groups who promote this program for their students/members.
Would you like to join us? Please contact Nancy Damato, Read for RMHC-CR Coordinator, at (518) 438-2655 for more information.
Don’t miss our resources for young readers, featuring the RMHC-CR Video Story Library and book recommendations from our teen volunteers!
