About the Author:
Julie Chapman is a two-time Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist with more than 30 years of professional news experience and a nationally award-winning author. She can be seen every weekday morning anchoring for Spectrum News 1, covering all upstate New York and beyond.
Julie has written two nationally award-winning children’s books that celebrate the magical moments of the holiday season. Julie’s first book, Witches, Bats, and Mystical Cats won the Outstanding Creator Awards’ 2022 Children’s Book of the Year. The critic review called her writing “masterful,” and her poetry, “upbeat, fun, and enjoyable.” Her book also won five other national awards including a Moonbeam Children’s Book Award.
Her newest follow-up book, Santa, Elves, and Magical Bells was named Best New Holiday Book of 2024 by The Book Excellence Awards, The Outstanding Creators Awards, The Book Fest Awards, and The National Indie Excellence Awards. Critics wrote, “This book is a holiday homerun! The writing shines as Chapman gives children tasty poetic verses and a lot to think about.” Other book reviews state, “These are delightful stories packed with festive cheer and valuable life lessons, a must-read for both children and adults alike.”

Visit details: I present my book, tell the students how it came to be, why I am passionate about writing, and why I love the Halloween season. I then read each poetic story aloud and ask the students to interpret the meaning and contribute. We’ll talk about the importance of imagination and learning to visualize and create. Each page has a different rhyming story to encourage the reader to dream about seeing themselves as something more and staying light-hearted through their lives. My total presentation runs 45 to 50 minutes. I have a slide show of my book on my computer, which I usually hook up to a projector for the students to view on the auditorium’s big screen. I usually also wear a microphone. I like it when the students can read along with me.
Availability: Afternoons starting at 12pm. Will travel up to 30 minutes from Albany and Binghamton.
