Read for RMHC-CR is a reading and literacy-based community service program that gives participants the opportunity to volunteer their time to support the children and families served by RMHC of the Capital Region. Kids get to help other kids!

Read for RMHC-CR runs in partnership with area elementary and middle schools, with schools joining for a month of their choosing between November and March. During that month, elementary school students gather sponsorship from family and friends for the reading they will do for the month. In addition to being sponsored for reading, middle school students may also be sponsored for broader literacy activities and athletic pursuits. All donations earned are used to give love and support to families dealing with serious childhood illnesses and injuries.

By participating in Read for RMHC-CR, our readers strengthen their reading/literacy skills, learn about the value and importance of community service, and are empowered about the difference they can make in the lives of others. Thanks to our many program partners, participants also earn great prizes as they raise funds for RMHC-CR. In addition, the program offers 10% of funds raised by schools or nonprofit groups back to the group for their own fundraising needs.

In addition to our school partners, we also welcome small groups and independent readers to be a part of our story! We are so thankful to all our participants for the tremendous difference they make in the lives of the families served by RMHC-CR!
