Sunmark Credit Union steps up during COVID-19

As a result of COVID-19, we’re currently providing for RMHC families by covering costs for hotel accommodations and meals, and Sunmark Credit Union has stepped up to help as we continue to support families whose children require medical care during this challenging time.

“There is nothing more important than to have a family by their child’s side and ensure they are not alone as they courageously battle an illness,” said Frank DeGraw, Sunmark President/CEO. “Sunmark is honored and humbled to be in the position to provide this opportunity for families – to be able to show families that their child is loved and that we are there for support, encouragement, and to one day share in their triumphs. Sunmark has been a long-time supporter of the Ronald McDonald House Charities and proudly supports their mission.”

Sunmark has generously committed to cover all costs incurred by RMHC-CR to accommodate families whose children are being treated at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center through at least the end of May. In order to prevent exposure and the spread of COVID-19, RMHC Global has suspended new admissions to Ronald McDonald Houses worldwide. Locally, RMHC-CR is continuing its mission by providing local hotel accommodations for families to stay together near the hospital. Sunmark’s support will fund overnight hotel stays until admissions to the Ronald McDonald House can resume.

Sunmark is also supporting the RMHC-CR Hospitality Cart at the Bernard & Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center, helping to make coffee, snacks, comfort items and other resources available to children, families, and health care workers in the hospital.

“During this pandemic, other serious illnesses haven’t slowed. It is more important that we help families focus solely on their child’s care,” said David E. Jacobsen, Psy.D., chief executive officer at RMHC-CR. “We are incredibly grateful to Sunmark for recognizing this need in our community and stepping up to help us keep families together.”

As we continue to serve families during this global crisis, many partners across the Capital Region are helping to carry out the organization’s core mission.
