About the Author: Hello from Nugget the Rafting Raccoon, A.K.A. Author Rachel Vogel. I am a small town girl passionate about sharing my love of reading and nature with our youth. Since our first publication in 2022, I have been awarded seventeen children’s book awards! I could not be more humbled and eager to inspire other future authors to keep reaching for their dreams.

In my debut tale, “Raccoons Go Rafting”, students splash into adventure on the Hudson River. As a NYS Whitewater Raft Guide, I fell in love with the water and the animals that call it home. The Raccoons guide readers down the actual rapids of the Hudson as they follow the pawprints hidden throughout the book. My many trips down the Hudson River were always filled with excitement and learning. Let me bring organic teachable moments to your classroom as we dive into an adventure that will encourage creativity, spark curiosity, and foster a desire to read. This is a great book to highlight the local ecosystem or the science beneath the water. All teachers receive a letter from Nugget or Riptail the Rafting Raccoons prior to the visit. Let’s Splash into Adventure Together!

The Raccoon’s adventures don’t stop there; during the winter Nugget and Bandit meet on the slopes for award winning adventures at local mountains. In  “Nugget & Bandit’s First Winter”, Bandit teaches Nugget how to ski on West Mountain. Nugget also learns that friendship can come when you least expect it. All teachers receive a note from Nugget prior to the author visit. New this school year, Nugget and Bandit head off to Willard Mountain for winter adventures of a different sort. Bandit is going to help Nugget with her first year of ski instructing! With possums, porcupines, and skunks (oh my!) Nugget learns that teaching might not be as easy as Bandit made it look! Can Nugget learn to teach her new students collectively while individualizing her lessons to their unique learning styles? All teachers receive a note from Nugget prior to the author visit.
