In the fall of 2013, when Skyler Castro was eight years-old, she started having pain in her lower leg. At first, doctors couldn’t find anything that would be causing it.
In May of 2014, Skyler was diagnosed with stage four Ewings Sarcoma, an aggressive form of bone cancer. The cancer had spread to her lungs and spine.
Skyler and her family have spent many nights at the Ronald McDonald House while she has been receiving treatment at Albany Med. Skyler’s tumors are now gone but she will continue to receive treatment.
Her fearless attitude and perpetual smile has inspired the “Skyler Strong – Fight Like a Girl” movement, which has united her hometown of Thurman, NY, in support of her and inspired people across the world through social media.
