On June 27, 2015, after 33 years of providing services to seriously ill children and their families, and for the second time in our history, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region has expanded our cornerstone program; the Ronald McDonald House of Albany, to accommodate the growing needs of the community. We now can host up to 25 families at a time.
Prior to this expansion, our facility was at or over capacity most of the time and served an average of 550 families per year. Research conducted by the Ronald McDonald House showed that an additional 10 bedrooms will meet the needs of the community through at least 2021. The value of the expansion and renovation project totaled more than $2,400,000. The larger House can serve more than 750 families a year and will ensure that no families are ever turned away due to a lack of available rooms for the foreseeable future.
Since its inception in 1982, the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region has served more than 18,000 families. Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region serves as a home away from home for families of seriously ill children undergoing treatment at Albany Medical Center. Though it costs the organization more than $80 for every room night provides, no family is ever asked to pay for any of the services provided.
